NutriPaw Calculator

This tool is specifically designed for raw dog feeding, as I’ve noticed many dog owners face challenges in properly balancing meals for their pets. There’s ongoing suppression from regular dog food producers about the science behind balanced nutrition, making it harder for those who want to switch to raw. At the same time, some owners genuinely want to improve their dog’s diet with raw dog food but don’t know where to begin with meal balancing.

I collected all the necessary data (mainly from USDA Food Central, but I was using other sources, too) and made calculations based on AAFCO recommendations (which every pet food producer should follow) to show that you don’t have to be a guru to do it. I know that many nutritionists charge a lot for basic recommendations, but you don’t need that anymore with this tool. Please feel free to use this tool—it’s free for now.

It is suitable for Prey or BARF models (not for Whole Prey since it does not calculate for fur, etc.). I will develop a similar tool for home-cooked food, too.

NutriPaw Calculator User Manual

Welcome to the NutriPaw Calculator! This tool is designed to help you plan balanced and nutritious raw food for your dog. Follow these steps to use it effectively:

1. Input the Time Frame

  • Navigate to the first tab and select the length of the period for which you prepare meals. Choose one of the following options:
    • Weekly
    • Bi-weekly
    • Monthly
  • This time frame will determine the total amount of ingredients needed for your selected period.

2. Add Ingredients

  • Input the ingredients you plan to feed your dog during the selected time frame.
  • Enter the total amount of each ingredient in ounces (oz), except for eggs.
    • Eggs should be input as pieces. For example, if you feed your dog one egg every second day, enter 15 for a monthly period.
  • Remember, the amounts entered should reflect the total for the selected time frame.

3. Switch to the Nutrition Tab

  • After entering all ingredients, switch to the Nutrition tab to view the calculated nutritional breakdown.

4. Understand the Nutrition Tab

  • Yellow Fields: Display the percentage of protein, fats, carbohydrates, fiber, and the total calories calculated on a daily basis.
  • White Fields: Represent other nutrient levels. Two columns show the AAFCO requested value, while the last shows the nutrient amount from food entered on the first tab. Any deficiencies will appear in red, indicating a shortage of that nutrient.
  • Calcium to Phosphorus Ratio (Ca:P): If the ratio is incorrect, it will also be displayed in red.

5. Get Help with Results and Join My Community

  • If you need assistance interpreting the results or have questions about balancing your dog’s diet, I am happy to help!
